Nursing Program Applicants:  Students seeking admission to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program are required to apply for general admission to Southeast and complete the Nursing program application process.

Online Courses:  Southeast Online is those courses and degree programs which can be completed online through Southeast Missouri State University.  Instruction, assignments, class discussions -- all facets of a high quality class are part of our online classes.

Students interested in applying to Southeast Missouri State University for the fall semester are urged to apply through the early admission process. Applications should be submitted to the Admissions Office no later than December 15 to take advantage of scholarship, housing and enrollment privileges, however regular fall applications will be accepted until August 1. Applications for the spring semester should be submitted prior to December 1, and for the summer semester prior to May 15. Contact the Admissions Office for specific details.

Please note that admission to the university does not indicate admission to those programs which have additional admission criteria and/or specific prerequisites.

Southeast is a moderately selective university. Admission to the freshman class is primarily based on probable success as reflected in course work and grades completed in high school, and scores on standardized college admission exams.

All applications, official transcripts and test scores should be mailed to:

Southeast has an “Early Action Consideration and Scholarship Guarantee” deadline of December 15, so you may want to begin gathering the materials in either October or November. Note: It is important that you take the ACT or SAT as early as possible. You will need to submit your scores when you apply.

    To apply for admission:

  • You may obtain an application for admission from your high school counselor’s office, the Office of Admissions at Southeast in Academic Hall Room 259, or on-line.
  • Submit your ACT or SAT scores. In addition to being used in admission decisions, ACT and SAT sub-scores are used for course placement in English and math.

  • Request that your high school principal or counselor submit your official high school transcripts showing class rank, cumulative grade point average and required ACT scores. Note: A final transcript showing high school graduation and successful completion of all course work must be submitted before the fall semester begins.
  • Note: You can apply for admission by using Southeast Online Services (S.O.S.). Through S.O.S., you can also access your admission status or personal demographic information as well as register for a Show Me Day or First STEP.

  • The contract needs to be completed, signed by the student and returned to the Office of Residence Life with a $150 advanced payment.
  • It is important that you return your contract quickly for priority consideration. Hall, room and roommate assignments are generally distributed during the middle of July.
  • Once you have turned in your housing contract, you can access the “Housing Preference” form by using either the “Current Student” S.O.S. or the “Prospective Student” S.O.S. links. Note: You must be entered into Southeast’s prospect system before using the Current Student link.
  • Note: Southeast Missouri State University requires that all full-time students live on campus unless they meet at least one of the criteria for an exemption from the residency requirement.
  • You will also receive a medical history form that should be returned with your Contract for University Housing.

Step 3: Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You must fill out the FAFSA to be eligible for any type of financial aid and need-based scholarships.

    • Request that official transcript(s) be sent to Southeast from all colleges or universities you have attended.
    • Note: Students with a “C” average who hold an associate of arts degree from an accredited Missouri college, or one with which Southeast has an articulation agreement, will be accepted by the University as having junior standing.
    • Credit from other institutions is accepted only to the extent that it counts toward a transfer degree in the institution where it was earned. Transfer of credit is at the discretion of the Registrar at Southeast Missouri State University.

Step 2: Apply for University Housing. Upon admission to Southeast, you will receive a Contract for University Housing with your acceptance letter.

    • You only need to apply for housing if you have not yet fulfilled the residency requirements. • Note: It’s a good idea to have your income tax information with you as you fill out these forms.

Step 4a: Register for First STEP Transfer Orientation. Along with the Contract for University Housing, you should also receive a registration card for the First STEP Transfer Orientation program.

    • Note: Students with less than 24 transferable hours are required to attend the First STEP Transfer Orientation.

    • At First STEP Orientation you will enroll in classes, get your Student I.D., and gather helpful resources to help familiarize you with Southeast.

Step 4b: Contact the Registrar. The First STEP Transfer Orientation is not required for all transfer students, so it is important to contact the Registrar to find out who your advisor is and when you can enroll into classes.
