Scully
Hall was started in 1968 and completed in 1971.
This four-story, 95,000 square foot building includes many classrooms,
laboratories, computer labs, study lounges, a food cart area as well as space
for pre-school, elementary, and secondary campus lab school programs.
Named
after Southeast’s tenth president, Dr. Mark F. Scully, this building is home
to Southeast’s nationally recognized College of Education.
The teacher education program is, a two-time recipient of the prestigious
Christa McAuliffe “Showcase for Excellence Award,” and is divided into
programs for elementary, middle secondary, and special education majors.
As one of the 20 model programs cited in the “Teach America,” report,
Southeast
is well known for providing a strong experience-based program that actually
places education majors in area classrooms their first semester in the program
The
college’s Instructional Resources and Technology Lab is located on the third
floor and specializes in meeting
the computer and technology needs of education and child development
majors.
The lab contains many reference materials, computer workstations, video
equipment for recording practice teaching lessons, and equipment for making
other instructional materials.
The
Child Enrichment Center is located on the building’s first floor and provides
daycare to Southeast students, faculty, staff, and local residents of the
community. It also provides
wonderful practical experiences for Southeast’s Child Care and Early
Elementary Education majors.
The
Department of Psychology, located on Scully’s fourth floor, offers a wide
range of opportunities to its students including internships, student
organizations, and participation in research projects.
The
Human Environmental Studies Department and lab areas are also found in Scully.
This department includes many diverse majors such as child development,
fashion merchandising, interior design, food, and nutrition, and dietetics.
