Southeast Cheerleading Tryouts

April 16-17, 2011

Before Tryouts:

          -Please make sure you are committed to being a student here by applying for admittance

                  (making the squad will not ensure admittance to our university)

          -Fill out our tryout registration form below

          -Learn more about our squad by checking out our website

          -Attend any open gym practices you can (not required-details below)

          -Make sure you are in top physical condition by stretching, working out, and practicing your skills

          -If you are younger than 18, email StacyMarie07@gmail.com for a liability waiver for your parents to sign

 

What to Wear:

   Women:

            -Open Gyms = wear a fitted t-shirt or tank top, shorts or fitted capri pants, and cheer shoes

            -Tryouts Day 1 = a fitted tank top or sports bra, shorts, and cheer shoes

            -Tryouts Day 2 = If you are trying out for coed, we ask that you wear a sports bra, shorts and cheer

              shoes.  If you are trying out for all-girls only, you may wear a fitted tank top, shorts, and cheer shoes.

 

   Men:  To open gyms and tryouts we ask that you wear a short sleeved t-shirt, athletic shorts, and gym shoes.

 

What to Bring:

     Open Gyms:  $5 entry fee

 

     Tryouts:  -$20 tryout fee

                     -a photo of yourself (full body shot)

                                    

OPEN GYMS PRACTICES:      At our open gyms, anyone trying out for our squad can come practice stunting and other skills with members of our current squad to prepare for tryouts.  We encourage anyone who can attend to do so, but they are NOT required. 

 

Saturday March 26 1-4 pm

 

Saturday April 2 1-3 pm

 

Wednesday April 6 4:30-6:30 pm
 

Open gyms will be located at Parker Lower Gym - see directions below.  $5 entry fee.

APRIL 16

       

 

              10:00 AM    Doors Open, Check in, $20 fee, stretch


              10:30 AM   Preliminary testing begins

                                      Everyone:
                                           Run 1/2 mile - we record your time

                                           Bench press - we record # of times...Men body wt /  Women 1/2 body wt.

                                        Coed Only:

                                            Chair - rated 1 to 5

                                        Men Only:

                                             Pushups - we record how many in 1 minute

                                         Women Only:
                                              Learning ability - we quickly teach sideline chant - rated 1 to 5

                                              Sit-ups - we record how many in 1 minute

                           


                  -BREAK FOR LUNCH AROUND NOON-      


                  1:30 PM     First round cuts made and posted
                           - Learn fight song, sideline chant, and stunts.

                                              Coed Stunts:

                                                                       Toss Extension - Pop off

                                                                       Hands-Lib or better - Full Down

                                              All-Girl Stunts: 

                                                                       Walk-in One Man, Power Press - Cradle

                                                                        Lib or Better - Full Down

                           -Practice tumbling (running or standing) and required jumps (toe touch, side hurdler)
                  5:00 PM      Dismissal

 

 

APRIL 17    

            

              10:00 AM    Doors Open, Review session-

                                     review all material learned and finalize stunts

 

              -BREAK FOR LUNCH AROUND 11:30 AM-


                1:00 PM      Coed Tryouts

                                                   (You may try out for both squads!)
                3:00 PM      All-girl Tryouts

TIPS FOR TRYOUTS:
-Positive attitude

-Willingness to try new skills
-Enthusiasm
-Collegiate spirit
-Athletic physique
-Great overall health
-Focus on perfecting the basics before advancing
-Full downs are required for maximum points
-Tight and sharp motions are required
-Tumbling is encouraged but not required

-GPA of 2.0 or better

-Placement on team is based on points, attitude, and coach's discretion

 
Directions to Parker Lower Gym:

     -Head East on Broadway toward the University

     -Turn left on Henderson (at the Southeast fountain)

     -Drive past the University Center, straight through the 4-way stop

     -Parker gym is on the right, just past Cheney Dorm

     -the parking lot is in front of the building

     -when you park head down the stairs, signs will direct you to our gym on the bottom floor

 

 Directions to North Rec Center:

     -Head East on Broadway toward the University

     -Turn left on Henderson

     -Go past the University Center, straight through the first 4 way stop

     -At the next 4 way stop, turn right on New Madrid

     -The Rec Center will be on your left, park just under and left of the overpass with the Redhawk

     -From that parking lot, head up the stairs and left

     -Enter on your right, go straight past the couches to our gym
