Southeast Missouri State University Audiology ClinicThe audiology clinic provides standard diagnostic assessments of hearing for the purpose of determining hearing status, identifying the degree of handicap cause by the hearing loss, determining if medical referral is warranted, and determining candidacy for hearing aids and other intervention devices or services. Also, a full-range of hearing screening services is available to anyone aged 2 years or older. Also, the audiology clinic provides assessment of auditory processing for children with suspected auditory processing disorder that may be contributing to learning difficulties. The results of this type of evaluation may assist the educational team in planning appropriate management of the child in the learning environment. The audiology clinic does not sell or distribute any hearing aids or other assistive listening devices. The clinic provides counseling and education regarding candidacy for such devices, their purchase, and their use. In addition, the clinic has referral arrangements with qualified audiologists in the region who dispense hearing aids and assistive listening devices. Services are available for anyone and are provided under the direct supervision of a nationally certified and state-licensed audiologist. Since the clinic is part of an academic training program, students are involved in the provision of service in conjunction with the supervising audiologist. |
