Prerequisites: 24 hours in SO courses. SO102. Society, Culture and Social Behavior. A series of lectures, projects and group discussions analyzing the impact of society and culture on human social behavior. (University Studies course) SO120. Cities and Society. Analysis of urbanization, including city life and problems, land use patterns, and the future of the city. (University Studies course) SO200. Introduction to Social Organizations. An overview of sociological principles for majors, minors, and others interested in a general understanding of the discipline. SO205. Social Problems in America. Examines the causes and consequences of societal problems such as crime, delinquency, racism, and poverty. SO240. Interpretation of Data. A non-mathematical introduction to understanding numerical information as appearing in crime rates, opinion polls, marketing reports, consumer information, and the like. SO242. Directed individual study of special interest areas in sociology. SO444. Deviant Social Behavior. An examination of abnormal behavior as a product of the structure and process of one's social environment. SO495. Senior Seminar. Students will research and analyze an issue of sociological concern, with emphasis on bringing together theory and method in sociology.
