University Police Patrol Training
The University Police Department has a continuing education program for its Officers. Most of the training received
is taught by department officers who have procured instructor certifications in specialized areas.
Among these areas are:
- Firearms Instruction (3 officers)
- Ground Reaction and Self Protection (2 officers)
- CPR and First Aid
- Arson Investigation
- Monadnock PR-24
- DEF-TEC pepper mace
- Verbal Judo
- Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT)
- ASP tactical baton
- Glock Transitional
- Glock Armored (2 Officers)
University Police Officers receive training in these and many more areas. Missouri State law requires a minimum
number of hours in training for all police officers in the state. University Police Officers meet and most exceed
the training requirements. Most of the Officers also hold Bachelors of Science Degrees in Criminal Justice or
related fields.
The Southeast Missouri State University Police Academy is located on campus and is available to provide training for
local police agencies. This provides the department with constantly updated training opportunities.
