2000 INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES


1st Fulbright Senior Scholar-in-Residence University Lecture

Neeta Jain, Professor and Senior Scholar from the State Council for Educational Research and Training, Bhopal, India, has spent an entire 1999-2000 academic  year as a Senior Scholar-in-Residence in the Department of Elementary, Early, and Special Education in the College of Education. During this time she has co-taught graduate and undergraduate classes in diversity and multicultural education with Dr. Jean Benton, Associate Professor of Social and Cultural Foundations of Education.

In April, Neeta gave the 1st Fulbright Senior Scholar-in-Residence University Lecture in which she detailed not only her own research with an action-based textbook development scheme in her home state of Madhya Pradesh, but also her work with graduate students from St. Louis to the Arkansas border who were developing action research agendas in their classrooms.

The lecture was widely attended by faculty, students, and staff.

Swansea Teaching Exchange Program
StepIn 2000

Every spring, a group of 8-10 students and faculty supervisor from the Swansea Institute, University of Wales, Swansea, Wales, UK come to Southeast's College of Education to participate in a school-based practicum experience in the local schools.  While teaching in the schools, the students live on campus and participate in campus activities. Faculty and students from the Department of Elementary, Early, and Special Education hosts the group while they are in residence during the five weeks.
