2005 International Activities
FIPSE Grant Activities continue................Third year activities took place at the University of Leon, Leon, Spain, one of the partner institutions of the FIPSE CARE grant consortium, and acted as hosts for the Evaluation Conference during the first week of February. At that time, the 53 students who participated in the exchange in 2004 and the faculty involved in the grant met to evaluate the outcomes of the program and find avenues for the development of a curriculum for teacher education majors to work successfully with students at-risk across cultures.
CARE Program continues....................Kelly Jordan, Elementary Education, and Levi Bollinger, Secondary English, spent the spring semester in Leon, Spain completing their Block II classes and internships, which took them into the local schools in Leon to teach. They also worked with students academically at-risk and worked with the ESL programs at their schools.
Stranmillis Exchange continues...............Four students from Stranmillis University College, Belfast, NI, Lisa Cochrane, Caroline Greene, Michelle Mitchell, and Leanne Thompson, spent 3 weeks teaching at Franklin Elementary School in February-March. WCCI student chapter members helped host the students' visit.
Two Southeast students, Amanda Bruns and Kristina Alvarez spent two months in March and April teaching English and History at Fullerton House Prep School, Methodist College, Belfast.
Sally Muraski, also of Southeast, is spending two months between October-December teaching history in Belfast.
Renaissance Partnership Program continues.....................Karen Krull, Amanda Grossius, and Sarah Krieger leave the U.S. in October for Melbourne, Australia to complete 8-weeks of student teaching in area schools.
Salvador Tomas will spend two months, October-December in Okinawa, Japan teaching elementary students in the Department of Defense schools and honing his Japanese language skills.
Jill Patterson will October and November in Amsterdam at the International School teaching physical education.
