Constitution of the Math Club
Article I - Name
The name of this organization shall be Math Club
Article II - Purpose
The purpose of this organization shall be to provide a forum where students and faculty may gather and share ideas in the field of mathematics and to expose students to interesting topics in mathematics that they would not normally encounter in the classroom.
Article III - Membership
Section 1
Any student in good academic and disciplinary standing at this university may become a member of the Math Club with voting and office-holding privileges. Those of the mathematics faculty who come to the meetings shall be honorary members, but will have no voting, nor office-holding, privileges.
Section 2
Dues, which will be set at the beginning of each semester, shall be paid by members only.
Article IV - Executive Officers
The executive officers of the Math Club shall be as follows: President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The offices shall constitute the Executive Board.
Article V - Duties of the Executive Officers
President
The president shall be in charge of all general and Executive Board meetings, be responsible for informing executive officers of duties and opportunities relative to their offices and ensuring that those duties are fulfilled, and shall appoint special committees when necessary. The president alone shall have the power to call special meetings outside of those regularly scheduled for the club or Executive Board. The president shall, alongside the treasurer, have his or her name on the Math Club checking account.
Vice-President
The vice-president shall preside over meetings in the absence of the president and shall assist the president in the execution of the adopted goals and policies of the club and Executive Board. The vice-president shall be in charge of all electoral proceedings that take place within the Math Club. The vice-president shall also be in charge of coordinating the food preparation for the meetings and shall be in charge of the Math Club’s website.
Secretary
The secretary shall be responsible for recording the minutes of the general and Executive Board meetings. The secretary shall also be in charge of all publicity of the Math Club and shall be the officer who keeps track of the club’s membership.
Treasurer
The treasurer shall supervise the finances of the Math Club, maintain and balance the records of account, and shall, along with the president and faculty sponsor, have access to the finances of the organization. The treasurer shall also be responsible for the presentation of a report to the club and Executive Board concerning the financial status of the club’s accounts once per month.
Article VI - Elections
Section 1
Election of officers shall take place during the second meeting of each semester.
Section 2
The vice-president shall be responsible for the monitoring and execution of electoral procedures. The vice-president shall distribute and count ballots, following the at-large nomination for officeholders by club members. The elections shall be conducted at the second meeting of each semester, with each dues-paid member of the organization having one vote per office.
Section 3
Any student member is eligible for nomination as an officer of the Executive Board if (a) the student meets the University’s eligibility for student office holding which consists of a 2.0 grade point average; and (b) the student fulfills the qualifications as set up by the Executive Board.
Article VII - Amendments
Amendments to the constitution shall be proposed by any member of the Executive Board. All proposals must be accepted unanimously by the Executive Board members. Amendments shall be ratified if they receive a majority of favorable votes by the voting members present at any one meeting.
Article VIII - By-Laws
By-laws shall be adopted by a two-thirds vote of the general members present at a general weekly meeting, provided that the by-laws are submitted in writing one week previously at either a regular or special meeting of the general membership.
